A pair of linen Appenzell embroidery pillow sham covers from the Victorian era. The fold over portion of the covers feature an oval of a woman head, at two corners and center of the case. Only on one case at one corner has the fabric been cut away around the face.
No other head has had this treatment. In between the heads, a meandering trail of cutwork flowers punctuated with a series of straight line drawn work gives the covers a nice definition. This beautiful work embellishes the lower part of each cover.
