This delightful 1950s Britemode red leather compact clutch is a beautifully coordinated vanity accessory, designed for the woman on the go and still offering all the elegance of mid-century cosmetic design. Fashioned in a vivid lipstick-red leather, the case is shaped in a smart, structured style and finished with a geometric brass accent clasp, lending a touch of modernist sparkle to the front.

Inside, the clutch opens to reveal its original blue fabric lining, clean and well cared-for. Nestled within are the components that make these Britemode sets so desirable to collectors:

One square powder puff, one marked Britemode, accompanied by the original powder screen (no loose powder present).

A brass Hazel Bishop lipstick—complete with its original paper bottom label and the remaining lipstick still inside. Time and age have caused the lipstick to soften and seize, making the push-up lever stiff, though the cap was successfully removed for inspection. However, the cap was not put on the tube again because of the difficulty of removing. The two pieces will be wrapped separately to be included in shipment.

A bright, well-preserved attached mirror, showing only minor normal wear and no clouding.

The exterior red leather remains vibrant, showing only the lightest signs of age. Edges and stitching are strong, and the gold-tone clasp retains an attractive patina. The interior accessories are in very good condition, especially for a set that retains all of its original pieces.

This charming little clutch represents the fashionable ingenuity of postwar vanity accessories—compact, coordinated, and designed to carry everything a lady might require for an evening out. It would display beautifully among mid-century cosmetics, vanity collectibles, leather goods, or period fashion accessories.

Britemode, known for their stylish leather and faux-leather cosmetic cases, frequently sourced their inserts from established American cosmetics houses. Hazel Bishop, whose “Lasting Lipstick” dominated the 1950s beauty market, was one of the most common suppliers for refillable lipstick cartridges included in vanity kits. The lipstick tube in this set is almost certainly original to the clutch, making it an especially appealing example of period cosmetics history.

Here are two sweet society silk embroideries from the later Victorian, early 1900’s era. So perfect for storing something special.

The first is a sachet stitched in a triangle shape with daisy flowers embellishing the front. A pretty lace trim accents the edge. The sachet is of a cotton fabric and is 4-3/4″ long to the point. The width is 4″ wide. Condition is nice.

The 2nd piece is a small linen shaped envelope. The flap is decorated with small flowers in a pink floss. Edge of the lap is scalloped in a cream color thread. This adorable textile is 2-1/4″ x 3″. Condition is nice. Sold as a lot

This long fabric hosiery case is sewn in pockets with four compartments.

The front is a tiny floral print in shades of green with yellow roses. The backing is a sunny yellow polished cotton. Edged in a narrow white lace and accented with five small silk ribbon bows.

It has never been used, stored away in a drawer, possibly even received as a gift, as so many of these pretty things were. Now, ready for someone else to admire.

Condition is like brand new ~ lovingly tucked away all these years.

A lovely unused rayon silk and ribbon handkerchief foldover case, still in the original box. Although no markings on the box, it is more than likely from the Boag Ribbon Co. at the 1920’s.

The pretty blue case is accented with pink and blue ribbon criss-crossing at the corners. A circular rosette decorates the center of the case. It ties at at the opening and has never been removed from the liner paper it is attached to.

Condition is very nice.

Size is 5-1/2″ square.

Box container is completely covered in paper except part of the bottom. When closed, the height of the box measures 2-3/8″ tall x 1-7/8″ wide x 5/8″ deep. Condition is very nice.

A beautiful Edwardian celluloid dresser box with a comb, brush and mirror set in gutta percha. The alluring box lid features a a demure woman in night attire discreetly peeking over a dressing screen.

It is a wonderful graphic which is seldom portrayed. Encircling the image are purple violets, lily of the valley and daisies. Entwined with ivy its sets the mood of the background colors of a bronze gold and cream. The bottom edge of the box, in cream color, is embossed with a band of fleur-de-lis. The box opens to an impressive comb, brush and mirror set. The brush and oval mirror are encrusted with a divine floral pattern and highlighted here and there with a touch of gold. The comb is without ornamentation. In other words, plain. All three pieces are in a cream color base. Mirror is beveled. The inside of the box is lined in a baby blue silk.

The size of the vanity box is 10″ long x 5″ wide x 3-1/2″ at the back of the box, slanting to 2-3/8″ high at the front.
Mirror is 8″ long from the top to the bottom of handle x 3-1/8″ wide. Mirror is excellent.
The brush is 7″ long from the top to bottom of handle. x 2″ wide.
Comb is 6″ long.

Condition: Even though quite nice…plus beautiful, there some flaws. First of all the brass catches and latches are good and in working order. The silk lining is nice but does show some slight discoloration where the pieces have been stored against the silk. A tiny wear to the silk here and there. Probably the worse to the box is a small amount of lost celluloid on either ends. (see photos). The comb, brush and mirror are very nice but again with gutta percha there are a few very faint hairline cracks which is normal for this type of ware. Nothing that is obvious or detracting. It would not be a disappointment. Brush bristles are in good shape. Comb is good.
