Victorian Edwardian Christening Long Baby Dress Pique Embroidery Trim

A late Victorian or Edwardian long Christening gown for a baby. Made of  pique fabric and whitework embroidered trimming.  The fabric, itself, is a small scale vertical stripe pattern, a white on white design.  The bodice of the gown features a “V” front yoke with four rows of graduated trim.

A gathered neck line with drawstring adjusts the fit around the neck.   Short puffy sleeves with a cuff. Peeking from under the cuff. a whitework eyelet ruffle.  The bodice attaches to the skirt with gauged cartridge pleats.  So attractive.  Back opening fastens with one covered white button (which shows a touch of wear.)  Another drawstring at the waist to adjust the fit.
