Description

A fine pair of antique cut steel shoe buckles, dating from the late Victorian to Edwardian era, and very likely of French origin. The dimensional cut steel pattern reflects the light with subtle sparkle, while the graceful curvature gives them an elegant profile.

Each buckle retains its original flap of white kid leather at the back, designed to fit over the shoe. Tiny needle holes remain at the leather edges, showing how they were once secured with strong stitching. This detail not only reflects thoughtful construction but also offers a glimpse into the craftsmanship and fashion traditions of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

The steel surfaces show light scratches on the broader flat areas, as expected with age, but no rust was found. The condition overall is very good, making them a fine example of period footwear adornments.

Size: 2-1/2″ long x 1-1/8″ wide

These buckles are appealing for their quality, authentic detail, and place in fashion history — a worthy addition to a collection of antique clothing accessories or decorative steelwork.
