A fantastic Civil War era child’s quilted bonnet. The bonnet is of silk taffeta in a wonderful jewel-tone blue color. Inside crown of bonnet is of a blue muslin and inside fabric of the short “apron” is green with ribbon design fabric. The bonnet is remarkably beautiful condition for being over 150 years old. It has been stored well with very minor damage to the silk. In fact, on the outside, I found only one small fray at the top, where it had been folded all these years. A couple of tiny frays to the green fabric on the inside. A tiny bit of soiling and a small amount of oxidation on the muslin on the inside. There are no ties, although there are a few threads to indicate where ties once were. Again, this is a well preserved bonnet. Just recently found inside a trunk. I am guessing the bonnet might fit a child about 3-4 yrs of age. Perfect for re-enactment. Measurements: 11″ at the neck line from one side to the other. Measuring from the brim across the top to the other side it is 16-1/2″. The bottom “apron” measures 2-3/4″ wide.

A beautiful historical well preserved piece.

A roaring 20’s or early 1930’s, girl’s vintage yellow silk chiffon rayon party dress. The bodice is in a plain sleeveless style with rounded neck line. Snaps on one shoulder for ease of getting into/out of the dress. No other fastenings.

The construction of the the over skirt of the dress is made of seven “petals” Each attached at the waist but hang loose over top of the longer underskirt. The underskirt is scalloped at the hem which compliments the “petals” of the over skirt. Satin ribbon is attached at the waist to form a narrow sash. Ribbon rosettes are sewn at different intervals along the sash. Loops of ribbon attached to a cluster rosette gives a finishing detail to one of the shoulders.

Measurements: 27″ long from the neck line to the scallop of the hem. 13-1/2″ across the shoulders from side to side. 28″ around the chest. 28″ around the waist. Dress would have fit loose in more or less a boxy style. Typical of the time period. Condition: Nice condition for the age. I did notice a small amount of oxidation on the front of the bodice just above the waist on left hand side. Some shredding to the ribbon on the shoulder.

Suitable for costuming, photography or display,

An adorable baby bonnet from the later Victorian era. The size of the bonnet also makes it suitable for a larger bisque or compo doll. Outside of bonnet is made of lace yardage, while the inside is lined in a fine cotton. Pleated lace trim outlines the face area. A gathering of lace and ribbon combined, forming a rosette at the top knot. The back of the bonnet is trimmed with a silk braid adding another lovely embellishment. This same style braid also separates the pleated edge trim from the main part of the bonnet. Bonnet, at one time, had silk ribbon ties which now are missing or disrepair. I will also mention, the stitches attaching the rosette to the bonnet on the one end could use a bit of reinforcement. Nothing at all major, just a simple stitch or two to secure the rosette better.

Color is a darker cream to ecru. Somewhat of a soiling or oxidating on the inside along the face area.

Size: 11″ around the face area from side to side. 6-1/2″ along the back of the neck. To give you a better prospective size, I would say it would fit a doll’s head about the size of a grapefruit … maybe about 5″ in diameter.

A little boy’s Victorian tam hat from the later 1870’s to 1890’s era. This 19th century hat is extremely nice. It is a cloth fabric in a linen / cotton, raised weave, stripe pattern.

The fabric reflect the colors of autumn in a striking brick red-brown background with fabric stripes in a golden rod yellow The same color shade is used for the lining fabric. Between the lining and outer fabric, it appears to be a heavier paper to hold the shape of the tam. A stiffened cardboard between the lining and fabric forms the hat band. A fabric bow fastened with a metal buckle accents the edge of the hat band on the one side.

Stamped label inside is American Best Make, Warranted. Image of a eagle is also displayed. Size label is 6-3/8.

Measurements: 21-1/4″ circumference around the hat band. Height of the crown is about 3″ tall.

Condition: Very nice. A few spots on the inside lining. A slight overall fading of the fabric just on the top of tam from light exposure.

An adorable treasure. Would fit a child about 6yrs of age.

Suitable for costuming, photography or reenactment purposes, this sweet white cotton petticoat would fit a child about 10-11 years old.

Dating from the late Victorian or Edwardian era, the petticoat features a 3-1/4″ wide Swiss eyelet ruffle at the hem. Just above the ruffle a row of beading eyelet to draw through a ribbon to accent. Back closure just pins closed – no fastening.

Length of the petticoat is 24″ long. Waist band measures 24″ around. Condition is nice with only a couple of minor oxidation marks from storage. You may find one or two pin dot holes, although I did not notice any.

Vintage 1950’s girl’s school dress in a white with raise double dotted Swiss fabric, slightly sheer. The child’s dress features a full dirndl skirt, 3 buttons fasten the back, fabric self sash tie, and short puff sleeves, trim in blue dot fabric. Embellishing the front of skirt , at the hem, are two insets of blue dot ruffled fabric shaped in a triangle. At the very top of the point a small fabric bow fastened. Hem is turned and stitched. My thoughts the dress is home sewn. As you note from the photos, the dress does have a few oxidation stains just as found. Dress has been worn so needs to be laundered to remove the stain. Also on the ruffled collar it is missing some the dots of the fabric. A very decent cute dress though.

Measurements: 31-1/2″ long from the neck to hem. 11″ across the shoulders. 29″ around the chest. 26″ around the waist with the sash untied. Measurement around the bottom of the hem is 80″ circumference. So it is quite full. Triangle inset on the skirt is 8″ tall, from the bottom of the hem to the point. Widest width across the triangle is 6-1/2″ wide.

A cute child’s school dress probably for about a 8 to 9 year old.

Here’s a late Victorian or Edwardian child dress that is just adorably sweet. The style is so suitable for possibly dressing a large doll. Or beautiful for display. Especially charming for photography work should that be your niche.

The dress is a white cotton batiste fabric. The yoke of the dress is accented with rows of tucks, both the front and back, dipping to a “v” at the center front and back. A ruffle of whitework embroidery at the neckline and edges of sleeves. A wider whitework trim edges the hem line. The skirt of the dress also boast many rows of tucks ~ 15 to be exact making the dress a splendid creation. The dress buttons down the back to just above the first rows of tucks on the skirt.

Measurements: 21-1/2″ long from the neck line to the hem. 9″ across from shoulder to shoulder. 28″ around the chest. 8-1/2″ long sleeve. 7″ opening around the cuff.

Condition: A few tiny frays to the fabric of the beautiful embroidered whitework at the hem and a couple pin dots holes in the fabric . One mend at the center front in the body of the skirt about a 1/2″ long. Nothing more than would be expected for the age of the dress. All flaws would be minor.
