A tender glimpse into the quiet artistry of the past—this intimate assemblage brings together the very tools of creation: impossibly fine crochet hooks, a delicate Irish crochet doily, and a small pair of well-used scissors. One can almost imagine the gentle rhythm of hands at work, forming lace from thread with patience and care.

There is something deeply personal in this small gathering—a sense not only of craft, but of presence.

Here, a collection of early 20th century crochet tools rests beside a beautifully executed Irish crochet doily, each piece speaking softly of time, skill, and quiet industry. The four slender steel crochet hooks are remarkably fine—so delicate at the tip that one must turn them in the light to see the hook itself. These are tools of precision, made for the finest threadwork, and handled by practiced hands.

Included in this grouping:

* **Four antique steel crochet hooks**, each bearing its own markings and history:

* Milward #9 (printed lettering)
* “PAT ENT” #11
* “Pat’d Pending” #7
* “Made in England” Milward #7 (in elegant script)

Each shows honest use, yet remains in good working order—a testament to their quality and care.

* **A small pair of embroidery or thread scissors**, measuring just 2 5/8 inches in length.
Marked “Germany” with the maker’s stamp **A.C.K. & Co**, these have the pleasing weight and form of early 20th century steel tools, likely used for the precise snipping of fine threads.

* **One Irish crochet doily**, measuring approximately 5 3/4 inches in diameter.
Worked in fine cotton thread, the pattern displays the characteristic raised motifs and openwork associated with traditional Irish crochet. The condition is very good, with a gentle softness that comes only with age.

Dating to approximately the **1930s**, this grouping feels almost like a preserved workbox moment—tools set down beside finished work, awaiting the next quiet hour of making.

Whether displayed as a decorative vignette, added to a sewing or textile collection, or appreciated as a study in craftsmanship, this assemblage carries both beauty and story.

*A small and thoughtful gathering, quietly preserved, as though set aside only yesterday.*

### **Collector’s Note**

The extreme fineness of these hooks is especially notable—such tools were used with the thinnest cotton threads to achieve the intricate, lace-like results seen in Irish crochet. Their survival together with both scissors and finished work lends a rare sense of continuity between maker and object.

Vintage nightgown sewing pattern by Sears Roebuck and Co. Pattern number is 8013 9472. Size 40 for a size 40″ bust.

Unmarked with instructions for sewing on the front of envelope and the layout of pattern on the back. Style is both for a short or long sleeves and applied back yoke.

In looking at the pattern pieces, I found the wrist band is missing which probably could be duplicated fairly easy.

Pattern has been used but in decent condition. Envelope does have its issues as with most of these early envelopes. However, all print is readable and can be followed.
