Description

I am pleased to offer this exquisite two-piece antique lace collar, fashioned in a peach-pink Leavers Alençon lace of exceptional delicacy. Each section is worked with a raised floral design outlined in a fine cordonnet thread upon a hexagonal net ground, capturing the refined texture and dimension characteristic of Alençon-style lace.
The two pieces, each measuring approximately 22 inches along the lower edge, 16 inches at the top, and about 8 inches in width, were once part of a single collar ensemble. The slightly irregular upper edge shows where the lace was carefully cut away from its original setting—almost certainly appliquéd to a silk or crepe lingerie garment such as a negligee, slip, or gown. The romantic peach hue and graceful motif arrangement are entirely in keeping with French-inspired boudoir fashions of the late 1920s to early 1930s, when fine lace was prized for its softness and refined transparency.

The lace remains in lovely antique condition with gentle evidence of use consistent with age and removal. One tiny pin point hole in one piece. Perfect for display, study, or incorporation into restoration and couture projects where true period lace lends authenticity and charm.

A graceful and evocative piece, capturing the delicate artistry of early 20th-century textile design.

🪶 Historical Note:
Leavers lace was developed to replicate the intricate handwork of needlepoint Alençon. By the 1920s, its production had reached a high level of refinement, allowing designers to create richly dimensional lace for lingerie and couture garments. The softly tinted hues—especially peach and rose-pink—were fashionable in intimate apparel of the Art Deco era, bringing a touch of luxury to even the most private wardrobe pieces.
