A wonderful antique Superior 2015 papier-mâché doll, full of history and charm. Her cloth body is fitted with attached leather arms and hands, showing the gentle wear of a well-loved treasure. She retains much of her originality, including her underwear of a half slip and bloomers, along with attached red cotton stockings featuring a classic black side seam.
Her fabulous calico dress is a standout feature – a pinkish-red tiny stripe check patterned with larger wheat sheaf motifs. Entirely handstitched, the dress closes with eight china buttons down the front. A delicate Peter Pan style collar edged with hand-tatted lace adds to her charm, with an additional lace trim accenting one side of the opening. The long sleeves finish in soft ruffles, completing her period-perfect attire.
Both undergarments have aged to a soft antique off-white, and the doll herself shows her age gracefully – with light paint loss to her molded hair, minor nicks to the face, and natural wear to the leather arms and shoes. These details only enhance her authenticity and character.
