Description
This is an exquisite, oversized frog fastener closure dating from the late Edwardian era to the early 1920s. Hand-crafted in a rich chocolate brown hue, the piece features twisted cord work with a substantial 5-inch across the width from one side to the other, making it an ideal focal point for an opera cape, cloak, or heavy winter garment. The tassels are designed in a distinctive pom-pom style, common in high-end children’s christening capes and women’s couture wraps of the period.
Key Features:
* Dimensions: Approximately 5 inches across; substantial scale for outerwear.
* Material: Authentic silk rayon or possibly all silk cord with a soft, natural luster.
* Construction: Hand-braided “passementerie” work with matching pom-pom tassels.
* Closure Type: Includes a large original metal hook on one under side (note: the corresponding “eye” loop is missing).
Condition:
Antique/Vintage condition. This piece was salvaged from an original period garment, and visible thread residue remains on the back where it was originally hand-stitched. The cord is supple and strong, with no signs of “shattering” or significant fraying. The threads of the pom poms are sort of flattened – probably from storage. Again good but not perfect.
